Daniel Majok Gai

FOUNDER AND MANAGING DIRECTOR

Daniel, a refugee for over 25 years, is now a proud citizen of South Sudan and the United States. After fleeing the Sudan civil war in 1987, he resettled in Denver in 2001 with the Lost Boys of Sudan. With support from Carol and Richard Rinehart, he found his first job and earned a BA in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Colorado Denver.

As a field representative for Project Education South Sudan, Daniel helped build four permanent schools. In 2012, with continued support from Carol and Richard Rinehart, he founded Sunlight Primary School — a community-based school providing reliable education in Bor, Jonglei State.

Daniel is committed to empowering girls' education in South Sudan and advocates for the importance of educating daughters. Many girls attend SPS through a free scholarship program.

To provide the best environment for learning, SPS dreams of improving the campus by adding latrines, permanent classrooms, and teacher offices. Early Childhood Development classrooms recently got a makeover with colorful new chairs and wall posters – creating a new level of learning excitement.
