WHO WE ARE

From the start, women have been at the heart of our work—seeing needs and stepping forward, even without a clear path. That instinct to respond has often led to meaningful action and lasting change.

Core belief:

In 2006, I wrote about a recent trip to Uganda that was published in The Charlotte Observer. Dr. Lyndall Hare reached out. We’d both been approached by women who wanted to help orphans and vulnerable children but didn’t know how. What began as a small effort to raise awareness of children affected by HIV/AIDS in South Africa grew into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a coalition of women catalysts with a global vision — conceiving, nurturing, and replicating ideas that change lives.

Our Story

We believe women everywhere can be powerful social entrepreneurs, and that “mothering” is about developing responsible citizen leaders who create lasting change.

CHIEF CATALYST AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Patricia Shafer

The Woza Moya Orphan and Vulnerable Children's Play Therapy Center was one of the first education projects ever developed by Mothering Across Continents. From the beginning, our emphasis has been on education, but we realized a holistic approach that includes nutrition, health, joy, and peace makes all the difference.
