WALK FOR WISDOM
Walk for Wisdom℠ is a global education and service challenge for K-12 students. Participants explore important global issues, learn about South Sudan, the world’s newest country, and take action through service-learning and fundraising to support education initiatives for South Sudanese primary schools.
Founded by students in 2014, the Walk for Wisdom has grown into a nationwide program that brings real-world learning to life while empowering young people to become compassionate leaders and engaged global citizens.
The Walk for Wisdom looks a little different at every participating school, but always includes these three elements:
-

AWARENESS
Students learn about South Sudan and consider important global issues like education and access to clean water.
-

ACTION
Service-learning events (like walkathons, readathons, festivals, etc.) bring diverse groups of students together to make a difference in an easy, fun way through a social action project with a global focus.
-

PHILANTHROPY
Schools donate proceeds from service-learning events or other fundraisers to nonprofit Mothering Across Continents in support of three primary schools in South Sudan. Participating schools are encouraged to set a minimum fundraising goal of $2,500 for their Walk for Wisdom.
The name Walk for Wisdom honors the former Lost Boys of Sudan, who fled war and walked more than 1,000 miles in search of safety, as well as the many children in South Sudan who still walk upwards of 45 minutes each day to school.
Funds raised through Walk for Wisdom support educational programs at three primary schools in the Raising South Sudan initiative of Mothering Across Continents, helping provide quality education for up to 1,500 children.
This is the 25th year since nearly 4,000 Lost Boys were invited to the US through a special State Department initiative. To celebrate, we're inviting 25 schools to participate in the 2026–27 Walk for Wisdom.

Goal: $2,500 PER SCHOOL
Elementary & Middle Schools: Starting Global Education Early
Students build empathy, leadership, and global awareness while learning that they can make a difference. Walk for Wisdom complements literacy, social studies, SEL, and service-learning programs, and schools can participate at a level that fits their needs and capacity.
High Schools & IB Programs: Crafting the Global Classroom
Walk for Wisdom helps high school and IB students turn global learning into meaningful action. Through student-led projects, participants develop leadership, teamwork, communication, and intercultural understanding while making a tangible difference.
The experience aligns with IB CAS, Service as Action, Global Contexts, and reflection. Student organizations—including NHS, Student Government, IB CAS, service clubs, and leadership programs—can take the lead in planning awareness campaigns, walkathons, fundraising initiatives, service projects, and peer education activities.
Resources and Support
Walk for Wisdom is designed to be easy for schools to implement. Participating schools receive age-appropriate educational resources, planning guides, fundraising tools, promotional materials, and personalized support throughout the project.
We provide the framework, resources, and guidance, while giving schools the flexibility to participate in ways that fit their students, goals, schedule, and capacity.
